Celebrating a Birthday with Entrepreneurial Wisdom

Today is my birthday. I am one year older and I dislike it with an incredible passion. People say that getting one year older beats the alternative. Really? I have never understood that at all because I can think of an alternative that would beat getting older: getting younger. That option sounds really fabulous to me!

My work/social media career does not exactly have a birthday because it has been more of an evolution than an actual birth. However, on my birthday I will take the so-called wisdom that I now have since getting older and apply it to my business. Some of these pieces of advice are from me and some of them are from others who are older (I mean, wiser.) than I am.

  • “Life is too short and challenging to keep people who do not support you nearby. Create a distance with them and surround yourself with only your loudest cheerleaders.” –{LH}
  • “Timing, perseverance and 10 years of trying will eventually make you look like an overnight success.” –Biz Stone
  • “High expectations are the key to everything.” –Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart
  • “Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning.” –Bill Gates
  • “Most great people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure.” –Napoleon Hill
  • “I don’t believe in failure. It’s not failure if you enjoyed the process.” –Oprah Winfrey
  • “People not understanding the ‘what,’ ‘why,’ or ‘how’ of your dream does not mean that you should not believe in it and pursue it.” –{LH}
  • “If you can find people who think that what you’re doing is great, they’re going to do everything in their power to make it a success.” –Juliette Brindak
  • “Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.” –Albert Einstein
  • “If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way.” –Napoleon Hill
  • “Success is not in what you have, but who you are.” –Bo Bennet
  • “Success is how high you bounce after you hit bottom.” –General George Patton

A lot of this wisdom resonates with me. If you are pursuing entrepreneurial goals, perhaps these words will hit home for you, too. A little inspiration goes a long way!

Throughout the upcoming year, I will definitely be referring back to this when I need reminders about success, perseverance and strength. If you have your own reminders that you use from time to time, I would love to hear about them in the comments!

    My favorite all time saying is from Albert Einstein.  “Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.”  It makes my day when I think to myself.  I am not doing the same old thing, so if I fall flat on my face today, I change what I did and try and tackle it another way.  I keep what works and tweak the rest.

    Happy Birthday Lauren!  =D

    Thank you, Genevieve! I love that quote, too. I don’t think I realized that Einstein said it, though.
